Sisters at Loggerheads over £50,000 Bingo Win

It is with a heavy and sad heart when you report about three sisters being at loggerheads with each other over a Bingo Win. Doreen Thomas and Linda Kenny are now suing their elder sister Edna Sexton for £16,666 plus interest, which is what they claim should have been their share of a £50,000 bingo win on The National Bingo Game.

The three sisters had attended more than 50 bingo sessions together over the years and had always previously split any winnings that they had between them, but not in this case it seems. Doreen and Linda both claim that a pact was made between the sisters that any wins they may have whilst playing bingo together they would share, which they did to on two previous wins of £1,000.

Edna’s refusal to share her £50,000 win came about after she declared that, any winnings they had over £1,000 they would not share. The big win took place at Buckingham Bingo Hall in June of 2007 and has caused a huge rift between the sister ever since.

This case is currently being tried at the Chester County Court and this is what has been reported, Linda Kenny has told the court, “I actually bought Edna's National Game ticket for her because she was late arriving. To do so, I was let into the queue one place ahead of my sister Doreen, so it really should have been hers anyway. We always shared. We have never disagreed before, until this £50,000 win. It was always done equally, none of us lost out”.

Mrs Kenny also went on to say in court, “We always thought it was a binding agreement between three sisters. You trust each other as a sister. Until this win we stuck together. I always hoped for a big win now this is the outcome. We didn't ever think it would come to this because we did not think anyone would renege on it. As three sisters we would share always. Nothing was written down, it's a trust three sisters put in each other.”

It has also been reported that the Bingo Caller on the night Neil Francis, went over to the table where the three sisters were sitting at to announce the win, and when asked “Was it just you who won”, the reply was “No, it’s me and my sisters”.

I asked myself after writing this, whatever has happened to family trust and loyalty? We have seen a couple of massive bingo wins over the past couple of months and in both cases, the lucky bingo winners both stuck to the understanding or pack’s they had made with their friends and shared their massive bingo wins, which were both over a million pounds each. This is a massive amount of money to share, but both the lucky ladies stayed true to themselves and their friends and shared the money, which was fantastic to see and hear.

The same sadly, cannot be said in this instance. The case is still continuing in court, so only time will tell now what the outcome of this is going to be.

the judge has ruled in the 2 sisters favour, but they then claimed that the money had already been spent. if this is the case, what happens? does it just turn out to be a hollow victory or would the sister have to sell assets to raise the cash?
