Emmerdale is one of the longest running best loved community based soaps on UK TV and as from November 2009, Emmerdale will be sponsored by Tombola Bingo. This means that Emmerlade viewers will be treated to Tombola Bingo bumper ads at the start and end of every commercial break throughout the week. Emmberdale currently brings in around 6.5 million viewers every single night, so this will give Tombola Bingo the ability to reach millions of people in one fail swoop.

As we know online bingo TV sponsorship deals are not a new thing. Wink Bingo has had their fair share of these deals in the past. We have seen them sponsor All Star Family Fortunes, which is hosted by Vernon Kay, The Cube hosted by Phillip Schofield and as from last weekend Wink Bingo are the brand new sponsors of Harry Hills TV Burp.

TV sponsorship deals are like a two way street, as they should be beneficial for both parties involved. Gaming adverts of any kind are not allowed to appeal to children or young persons in any shape or form and they are also not allowed to be aired betweens children’s TV programmes.

What is interesting about the (Tombola Bingo / Emmerdale) sponsorship deal is that Tombola Bingo are looking to use their own real life bingo players to star in their bumper ads and not actors. Tombola Bingo profess to be ‘Britain’s Biggest Bingo’ site on the net and they certainly have a thriving online bingo community spirit, which is what Emmerdale are all about in essence.

Unlike the BBC, ITV and most other TV channels need advertising and sponsorship deals as this is where they earn most of their money. When the economic downturn hit the UK, it also affected advertising deals. Radio advertising took quite a knock, but TV advertising seems to have held its own.

ITV had a major shakeup of their company and as we know they are one of the biggest players in the TV stakes. Tombola Bingo have certainly picked a great soap to sponsor when selecting Emmerdale and it will be interesting to see just how this goes down with their viewers, although we are sure it will be a massive success.
