Michelle Collins Backs Bingo for Breakthrough Week

The Bingo Association have been supporting Break Through for Breast Cancer Charity for the past 6 years and actress Michelle Collins is the face of this year’s bingo for breakthrough campaign. Former Eastenders star Michelle downed a unique ball gown that was made out of bingo tickets to kick start the bingo for breakthrough week which will run between 19th and 25th October. This yearly charity fundraising event will see bingo clubs up and down the country turn a shade of pink as a whole variety of fund raising activities will be taking place in a bingo club near you from fancy dress competitions to bingo for breakthrough raffles.

Bingo has long been associated with helping to raise money for good causes and both Mecca Bingo and Gala Bingo are on huge charity fundraising initiatives at the moment. HRH The Prince of Wales is the patron of Breakthrough Breast cancer and he along with many others has helped them achieve world wide recognition for their work and their vision of a future that will be free from the fear of breast cancer.

Michelle Collins had this to say about her role in bingo for breakthrough 2008, "I am delighted to be supporting Bingo for Breakthrough 2008. It is a truly unique event that continues to receive a huge amount of support as well as raising a massive amount of money for this very important cause. I am really looking forward to a fun-filled, action-packed Bingo for Breakthrough week." She is also encouraging people to get down to their local bingo halls and take part in this fun filled week.

Over the past five years the bingo for breakthrough campaign has so far raised £2.75 million pounds for this great cause and it is their aim to smash through the £3 million pound mark this year. All monies raised through this week long event go directly to fund breakthrough for breast cancer’s vital research, educational work and campaigning.

As statistics still show that 70% of the population are women bingo players this issue is of real importance to them and although breast cancer is not as rife as in men as it is women this dreadful disease can affect them to and more awareness is being made of this fact.  Not only does the bingo for breakthrough breast cancer week give bingo players the opportunity to do their bit to help this very worthwhile cause indeed, it also helps to raise even more awareness to the millions of people that play bingo each week.

All participating clubs will be offering a free game of bingo each session to their players and they are will invite bingo players to make a donation for the bingo for breakthrough cause. Pink daubers will also be on sale throughout the week and you can purchase these at a cost of 75p each, all monies raised from the sale of these will also go directly to Breakthrough Breast Cancer Charity. To support the bingo association help raise as much funds as they can for bingo for breakthrough 2008 and head on down to your local bingo hall between 19th and 25th October and take part.
