David Barker, who is the general bingo manager of the Mecca Bingo hall in Bolton is getting ready to take part in the Flora London Marathon, which is one of the biggest Marathon events of the Year.

This is a grueling 26 mile long race, helps to raise millions of pounds every year for charities, by runners getting themselves sponsored to take part. David will be one such runner this year and he is even asking a local gym to lend him one of their treadmills so he will be in tip top shape for this racing event which takes place on April 13th.

Mr Barker said: "A treadmill will help me build up my fitness levels in preparation for the marathon. And I will also be running the full distance of the London Marathon on a treadmill later this month, when we'll be holding a charity day at the club." David is currently either running or cycling the 22 mile trip from the Mecca Bingo hall in Bolton where he works to his home.

The Mecca Bingo boss is doing all this hard work to help raise money for the “Whizz Kidz” Charity. The Whizz Kid Charity is all about giving disabled children the chance to lead a more independent life and it provides equipment and training for the children. David said, "The money raised will be used to help children in the North-West.''

It is not just David Barker who is taking part and there are six other “Mecca Marathon” team members who will be starting the London Marathon race, and these include, Kevin Clegg, Christian Jackson, Craig Millar, Angus Nisbet, Emma Pierzchalski, Louise Sharp.

Louise Sharp has set up a Mecca Marathon fundraising online website page, where you can sponsor all these team members direct. There collective fundraising target is £10,500, but they have only received £1,134.98 donations at the time of writing this article.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. They say that it is also the most efficient way to sponsor them. Whizz-Kidz will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. So if you would like to sponsor David Barker and the rest of the team, then you can do so direct from this link - http://www.justgiving.com/meccamarathon
