Gala Bingo are now well known for conducting surveys throughout the UK and this time they looked at how Brits will make their own luck in 2010. According to stats from their research, 91% of Britain’s hope 2010 will be a luckier year for them than 2009, with 84% of them believing that having a positive mental attitude and using the power of thought could boost their luck.

Many Brits have always believed in lucky charms, whether they use them playing bingo, or to help bring the luck in general. In their survey Gala Bingo asked people what lucky charm they would put their faith in.......and the results are in.

Top Ten Lucky Charms

No 1 – Lucky person
No 2 – Lucky charm given to you by someone you love
No 3 – Lucky number
No 4 – jewellery
No 5 – Lucky penny
No 6 – Lucky underpants
No 7 – Four leaf clover
No 8 – Lucky socks
No 9 – Horse shoe
No 10 – Rabbits foot

Felix Economakis, who has worked with BBC3 as a psychologist, has also teamed up with GAlw Bingo to develop a formula for good luck in 2010.

Mr Economakis, said: “With 84 per cent of us already thinking positive this year, we’re on to a winning formula.  Although we’re a superstitious lot, there is no real mystery to ‘thinking yourself lucky’ in 2010. A luckier life is achievable for us all.  Having a positive mind set will enables us to keep an open mind. Grabbing opportunities as they arise, keeps us looking on the bright side when bad things do happen.

He also added: “We need to get better looking at what’s right and what’s good in our lives, rather than focusing on what’s missing or what’s wrong. If we look for bad luck then we will always find it!”

Being luckier all year = PMA + (365 X -N) + (52 X R) + (12 X +N). PMA develop a positive mental attitude to life.  -N become less negative to little everyday occurrences (one a day, all year long).

Sounds like quite a bit of jargon to me, but positive thinking does get my vote. Other survey statistics showed that the luckiest people are as follows.

1.    Northern Irish
2.    Cockneys
3.    South coast of England
4.    Scottish
5.    Geordies

Let’s just hope some to this luck, rubs off on Gala Bingo players.
