As part of a charity drive initiative Gala Bingo buffs decided it would be a good idea to climb the highest mountain in the world ‘Mount Everest’ to try and set a new world record for the ‘Highest Ever Game of Bingo”! This was all in aid of raising money for Sue Ryder Care, who is the chosen charity for Gala Bingo and we are happy to report that Gala Bingo Buff’s have achieved their goal, by setting a new world record for the highest ever game of bingo played.

In total 25 dedicated Gala Bingo employees took on Mount Everest climbing an astonishing 17,500ft with bingo daubers at the ready to play at good old game of bingo at this altitude and make a new world record.

This was no small feat either as the 25 strong bingo loving team had to brave adverse weather conditions, dehydration, frostbite, altitude sickness and deep vein thrombosis to archive their aim and call ‘Bingo’ at the top of the world!

It took around a year’s worth of preparation for the Gala Bingo Coral employees to pull off the ‘highest’ bingo stunt of all time and it was has certainly been worth their while, as they have smashed through their £100,000 charity raising target for this initiative, making them very happy bingo trekkers indeed.

Gala Bingo employee, Ross O’ Shaughnessy said: “It’s simply unbelievable to have been part of a world record setting team. Despite all the hardships we endured on the way to Everest base camp, the trek was a once in a lifetime challenge and it’s great to finally be able to say that I’ve trekked to the top of the world, set a new record for Britain’s favourite game and helped raise over £100,000 for Sue Ryder Care. The other trekkers at base camp simply couldn’t believe it when we started pulling out the calling cards, dabbers and bingo balls at 17,500ft for the record attempt – I’m sure they thought we had altitude sickness! But the support, camaraderie and cheers that erupted across base camp when we broke the record is a moment that I will never forget. I hope we did the world of bingo proud.”

You have got to hand it to Gala Bingo, as they definitely know how to run some great PR Campaigns in aid of raising as much cash as they possibly can for Sue Ryder Care.
