An 86 year old elderly gentleman was mugged when leaving his local Mecca Bingo club on John Street in Oldham on Sunday night. It has been reported that the man had won quite a large cash prize whilst playing at Mecca Bingo that night and he was attacked just seconds after picking up his winnings a leaving the bingo club to go home.
The attacker grabbed the man by his head and pushed him to the ground, he then proceeded to steal the elderly gentleman’s bingo winnings before making a run for it, in the process the man was left with quite bad facial injuries and severe bruising to his arm and was obviously left quite angry and shaken by his ordeal.
Rukhsana Kauser, a Police Constable, from Oldham Volume Crime Team, said: "To target an elderly man in this way defies belief. Seconds before the attack he had left the bingo hall with his winnings. It looks like someone has been opportunistic and spotted this man setting off home with his cash winnings."
What is the world coming to when you cannot even go out for an enjoyable night out at your local bingo club, without the fear of being attacked. It has been said, that the attack on the elderly man, was probably an opportunistic attack by the police constable that attended the scene and as to whether the offender new that the man had won quite a large sum of money, is a still unclear.
When you play online bingo you do not have any fear of this kind of thing happening, as all transactions are made on secure servers, where money is transferred via bank accounts or credit cards to online bingo accounts and any winnings that bingo players may get are then transferred back to the credit or debit card that they used to fund their online bingo account with.
Extremely large cash sums won at land based bingo clubs like the national bingo games jackpot prize, are normally paid out to bingo players in the form of a cheque a few days after winning the prize. The advice given out is that, if you have had a cash win at any bingo hall and you are a little unsure about leaving their premises, then just speak to a member of their staff, as they will be only too happy to assist you.
The police are now on the hunt for the attacker and they are asking anyone with any information relating to this incident to contact the greater Manchester police force.
