Bingo Reprieve for Asbo Drunk

Michael Dicker, who is 23 and from Carlisle, was recently issued with an Asbo for being drunk and disorderly in the town centre. Magistrate’s have now banned him from being able to enter any licensed public buildings within the city centre, but he was given a reprieve in relation to entering the Gala Bingo hall which is situated in the town, even though their premises has a licensed bar contained within it.

When Mr Dicker was arrested it took 6 officers to hold him down, with one female officer, sustaining injuries to her hand and knee in the altercation that took place at Walkabout Bar in Carlisle’s city centre.

It has been reported that Mr Dicker pleaded with the Carlisle Magistrate’s to still allow him attend the Gala Bingo hall, saying that he did not drink while he was there playing bingo. Police Sergeant Richard Higgin, had this to say after the case was heard, “We hope that this Asbo will enable Dicker to break his cycle of offending. We will monitor his behaviour at the bingo hall and take early intervention if there are any signs that he is drinking at the venue or becoming involved in anti-social behaviour.”

Still being able to play bingo obviously meant a great deal to Mr Dicker, to have made such a plea in the first place. As well as receiving the Asbo, Michael Dicker was also giver a 12 month community service order, where he will be supervised for 6 months, plus he was also ordered to pay £100 to the police officer who was injured in the scuffle when he was initially arrested, plus £60 in court costs.

When the game of bingo is in play at a land based bingo hall, other than the bingo caller calling out the bingo numbers, it normally is a very quiet affair, and woe betide anyone who disrupts this game. Bingo players take their game very seriously indeed and with such large amounts of cash at stake, it only takes you missing one number that is called out, to potentially miss your claim and the chance to win. So to this end as I am sure Mr Dicker will be aware, seen as he is an avid bingo player, any disruption won’t just result in him having to deal with the police, he will also have to face lots of unhappy bingo players too.
