Bingo Club to Dance Venue

Yet another much loved land based bingo club has bitten the bingo dust and closed its doors for the very last time and this time it was the turn of Top Ten Bingo in Yeovil. For many years the Top Ten club has served its local community with bingo, but now it looks like it could become a nightclub despite only closing down a short while ago, as plans have already been submitted to turn the now disused bingo hall situated in Star Lane into a bar, restaurant and club.

Many bingo clubs have gone back to their roots lately by turning back into what they once were. The Top Ten Bingo club in Yeovil first started of life as a cinema, then a social club and in the 1070’s into a bingo hall. Now it is on its way to being a social nightclub type venue once more.

With the widespread introduction of TV’s into our homes as we know many cinema’s, theatres and social clubs closed down and the game of bingo took off at a phenomenal pace, with many of these disused buildings being snapped up by bingo entrepreneurs.

There has been a massive shift in how the game of bingo is played today and there are many factors as to why we have seen an unprecedented amount of land based bingo closures over recent years. The smoking ban in all public places was one of the first regulations to knock bingo for six, next the absurd double taxation law took its toll.

The UK Government in its infinite wisdom finally did away with the grossly unfair double taxation law in the 2009 budget, but what they gave in one hand by abolishing this double tax they took back in the other by hiking up bingo tax from 15% to a massive 22%. Other gaming regulations have also affected the bingo industry.

It also has to be said that the game of online bingo has had a huge impact on how we can now play bingo and with none of the above rules affecting the game of bingo online, it is not really surprising that online bingo became one of the fastest growing industries ever on the World Wide Web.

The offline game of bingo could get worse before it starts to recover (as in even more land based club closures) could be on the cards.
