The advent of the new bingo regulations and other gaming laws was being looked forward to as something that would open up the gambling industry while keeping it safe for players.

Top Ten Holdings is a land-based bingo operator and they are the latest to warn about the effects of falling profits. Bingo players are known to be heavy smokers and the smoking ban has been taking its toll on bingo operators in the UK.
Top Ten Bingo, like Rank (Mecca Bingo), are blaming its financial predicament on the smoking ban and the new gambling laws. Many bingo players who are smokers don’t enjoy the game as much when there are smoking restrictions, no matter what programs are put in place to help them. As soon as there is a break, they rush outside to smoke, instead of staying inside playing the gaming machines. Many have stopped attending land-based games and have switched to playing bingo online.
