Bingo Is More A Social Thing Than Just Gambling

While it was great to hear of Bingo’s first £1 million bingo winner last week, let’s not forget to cheer, BINGO itself, as well.

There are many, many ways in which we all can gamble our hard earned money away – and a good number of us have tried most (if not all) of them – but Bingo is probably the least harmful by far.  Now don’t think that I’m saying gambling generally is wholly harmless, but saying that Bingo is the least harmless by a long shot.

Over the years those of us with any contact with the gambling business at all, have seen letters and emails, which testify to how destructive gambling can be.  And let’s face it the new laws have made it even easier than ever to lose your money, your home and everything else that goes with it.

But also the truth of the matter is, that its only a very small minority of those that are involved (around 1 to 1½%) that it becomes a problem for.  Also, its very very difficult, if not impossible, to lose thousands on an evening playing bingo.  And the most important point to remember, with relation to bingo, is that its as much a social thing as a gamble.

Sad, by true, in this day and age more of us than ever are living life ‘second-hand’ through TV or (more likely to be the case) our computer.  Too many people, especially the younger ones don’t mix with people, don’t have friends, but they do have a Page on Face Book!  And then there’s those so called reality shows and we are much closer, most of the time, to our soap (opera) families than to our own.

But, to the honest, its so difficult to be lonely at bingo. The customers commiserate with each others’ losses and cheer each others’ successes.

Let’s face it’s the playing rather than the winning, nice as it is, that is the fun.  Even playing online bingo you meet great friends in the Chat Rooms.

Isn’t playing Bingo, online or at a hall, much better than putting money into a slot machine in one of those depressing arcades or casinos?  People in those places can sit next to each for hours and not even pass the time of day! No fun at all.

But Bingo is fun, fun, fun!
