ASA Issue Tombola Bingo with Warning

The ASA have issued online bingo site Tombola Bingo with a warning, “to take care not to present negative racial stereotypes in future.” This come after the banning of one of their Hawaiian themed adverts that received just two complaints from viewers and was subsequent banned by the ASA. This means it is not allowed to be aired on our TV screens again in its current form.

Virtue Fusion Sell Up

Gala Bingo are now well known for conducting surveys throughout the UK and this time they looked at how Brits will make their own luck in 2010. According to stats from their research, 91% of Britain’s hope 2010 will be a luckier year for them than 2009, with 84% of them believing that having a positive mental attitude and using the power of thought could boost their luck.

Unlucky for Some

The bingo terminology ‘Two Fat Ladies (88)’ has long been  a classic bingo call number, but fears are now starting to arise from within the bingo industry that our bingo slang could become a target by European quangos. It is thought that the bingo saying two fat ladies could be axed for being sexist, which has led one online bingo comparison site starting a campaign to save our much loved bingo banter words, as they say – Hands off our Brussels!

888 Holdings to Acquire Wink Bingo

News has been coming in thick and fast today about the pending acquisition of Wink Bingo by 888 Holdings PLC, owners of 888 Ladies Bingo. It was with great shock we learned today, that 888 have just entered into an agreement to purchase Wink Bingo who are currently owned by Daub Ltd. It is thought this deal could be worth nearly £60 million for Daub, so this is definitely not pocket change we are talking about.

Mecca Bingo welcome Tax Reduction

The bingo industry got some good news in last week’s pre-tax budget report, which should give some hope to the bingo fighting brigade who have lobbied the UK government over recent months. In the pre-tax budget, Alistair Darling announced a 2% reduction on bingo tax, taking tax back down from 22% to 20%.........however, this does still leave a 5% hike on what bingo operators had to pay before the April 2009 budget, so it does somewhat still leave a sour taste in your mouth.
